If you are experiencing issues downloading or printing a printable, you are in the right place. These printing tips for printables will help you troubleshoot common issues that may arise.
First of all, if you cannot open a PDF, you may not have the correct software to view/open PDFs. There are all kinds of free and paid software on the market right now, Check out the google play store, or the itunes store to see if you can find something that works for your computer.
You are responsible for software, and computer issues. These are not something that we can fix as we do not have access to your computer/software.
Experiencing printing issues can be a real pain. These are usually caused by printer issues or improper printing software. Go through the list and check everything is in order. If not you may want to look into getting a new printer, and/or software for the printer. Uninstalling and installing the printer may also do the trick.
Not Printing at all
Do you have the correct printer selected? If the printer is turned off, sometimes the system will automatically select a different printer (even if that one is not available).
Is the printer plugged in and turned on?
Is the computer paused or hung up on an error?
If you press print and nothing happens. It could be that you don’t have the correct printer selected. Go to the print setup page, (press print, and it should bring it up).
It should look something like this… Every printer/computer has a different kind of printer setup. They may have a different look and even different options.
There should be an option to select a printer. You can see where I could select a different printer, in the image above. It says “destination”. Under it is a button that says “change”. If I click on change it will give me a list of printers to choose from. Make sure you have the correct one selected, and try printing again.
If that didn’t work, check to make sure the printer is plugged up and turned on.
Also, make sure the printer doesn’t have any errors or jobs that have been paused. You can do that by going onto your computer and finding the printer settings and looking for the queued items. You can usually cancel any present jobs, or send them through.
Printing Full Page
Most of our printables are full page (US) meaning they take up most of the 8.5″ x 11″ page. It should print just fine, but if it’s not we will need to check the settings.
Choose “Fit” or Scale to Fit” option
If “Fit” doesn’t work, try using the scale option, and scale the page to the correct size.
For other page sizes you may also try using the scale option to get it to fit the page such as size A4.
Choose the correct orientation
If your printable prints too big or too small on the page, look at the printer setup page again. Check to make sure the “Scale to Fit” or “Fit” option has been selected. If that doesn’t work you can use the scale option along with the preview to get it to the exact size it should be.
If you don’t live in the USA and have A4 or other sized paper, you might try choosing actual size, or use the scale option to get it to optimal size.
Printing on both side of the paper
To print on both sides of the paper, some printers come with the option to do this automatically. My printer doesn’t have that option, but many newer models do.
If your printer does have this option you will find the option in the printer setup page.
If your printer doesn’t have front and back printing, you can print one side, and then feed the paper back through to print on the other side. You will have to figure out the proper orientation so that you can flip the page over, and be able to read it, so the text is not upside down.
Printing duplicates of a single page
Want more note or recipes pages? You can print more than one copy of any page. In the picture above, find where it says ALL, and below there is an option FROM. Fill in the page number that you would like to print. Other printers might have an option of pages numbers to print such as 1-10. You can skip pages that you don’t want to print with this option. Say you don’t want to print page 2. Type in 1,3-10. A comma separates 1 and 3, and a dash tells the printer it should print pages 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10.
What kind of paper to use?
If that doesn’t work
If none of these tips work, you might could try to get these printed professionally. Go to your nearest printing shop and ask them to print them for you. You will have to call them to see what their policy is. They may want you to bring the document in on a flash drive.
